World Air Logistics and Worldlink Shipping Colombo recently teamed up to transport a large Thai elephant to Thailand.
The elephant was flown from Colombo in Sri Lanka to Chaing Mai in Thailand and is set to be certified by Guinness World Records as the largest elephant flown onboard an aircraft.
The two forwarders, which combined through the networking group WCA Projects, utilized a specially designed container to transport 3.7 ton Sak Surin.
The container was 6.15 m long and 3.15 m high and weighed a total of four tons.
The flight was completed using an IL-76 freighter and involved close coordination with the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation and relevant government authorities.
World Air Logistics Thailand sourced the aircraft capable of accommodating the elephant’s cage, as well as arranging for veterinary experts and mahouts to accompany the elephant during the flight.
Worldlink Shipping Colombo worked with the Thai Embassy and a local truck company to facilitate the transportation of Sak Surin from Dehiwala Zoo to Bandaranaike International Airport.
Worawut Pakdeesattayaphong, managing director, World Air Logistics, said: “We are proud to have collaborated with our esteemed partners within the WCA Projects network, especially on this exceptional project.
“Handling the intricacies of an elephant movement is a testament to the extraordinary capabilities of our teams and vividly demonstrates the impact of our partnership.”
