SpiceJet has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the operator of India’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport that will see them working together to transport Covid-19 vaccines in India.

Adani Ahmedabad International Airport Limited (AAIAL), whom Spicejet has signed the agreement with, will provide cold chain storage for the vaccines, as well as pharma-handling services.

SpiceXpress, the cargo division of SpiceJet, will transport the vaccines quickly and securely to destinations in India while maintaining the cold chain.

Ajay Singh, chair and managing director at SpiceJet, commented: “The success of the biggest vaccination drive largely depends upon the transport, storage and distribution of vaccines to every part of the world without any major challenges.

“At SpiceJet, we are ensuring no stones are left unturned in making this drive a remarkable success and our latest tie-up with AAIAL is another step in that direction which would help in the seamless transportation of the Covid-19 vaccine.”

Behnad Zandi, chief executive of Adani Airport Group, added: “We are humbled to be part of this vaccination drive by utilizing our core competencies in the logistics sector and infusing innovative solutions as cargo terminal operators at SVPI Airport. We are committed to ensuring seamless transportation of vaccines through our terminal.”

As part of its efforts to transport Covid-19 vaccines to every part of India, as well as outside of the country, SpiceJet has partnered with Brussels Airport, GMR Hyderabad Air Cargo, Om Logistics, Snowman Logistics.

Last month, SpiceXpress, also launched a pharma service to support the widespread global distribution of Covid-19 vaccines.

The launch of Spice Pharma Pro comes after SpiceXpress helped to transport essential goods and medical supplies into and around India throughout the pandemic, as well as helping to maintain the country’s supply chains.
