DUBAI: Majid Al Futtaim, the leading shopping mall, communities, retail and leisure pioneer across the Middle East, Africa and Asia, is building a giant Carrefour regional distribution center at the National Industries Park (NIP) in Dubai.
Younis Al Mulla, Senior Vice President of Development and Government Affairs at Majid Al Futtaim Retail, described the new facility as “four times the size of Carrefour’s largest distribution center in the region.”
“The center will also feature advanced warehousing, storage and logistics technologies. The distribution center is expected to save over 50 percent in energy per cubic meter, in line with Majid Al Futtaim’s sustainability goals for energy efficiency, as well as it’s continuous efforts to ‘Create Great Moments for Everyone, Everyday,’” he said in a statement dispatched through the Emirates state news agency WAM.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the site was held last month with many officials and business executives in attendance.
Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of DP World, the parent company of the NIP, said, “The NIP has become an ideal destination for both international and national companies thanks to the benefits and incentives it offers to its customers and due to its strategic location adjacent to the Al Maktoum International Airport and the Jebel Ali Port. This allows companies to serve the local market and reach regional and international destinations in record time.”
The multi-temperature storage at the new distribution center is designed to meet the storage needs of different food types and warehousing needs of non-food goods. It has a total storage capacity of over 400 million units, to support Carrefour’s brick and mortar stores, in addition to the multi-channel business of Carrefour.
