DUBAI, UAE—Newly re-elected German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife Elke Büdenbender will visit the German Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai early this month.

As part of their visit to the United Arab Emirates, they will also visit CAMPUS GERMANY with a delegation of business leaders and media.

After the President had to cancel his Expo visit on the occasion of Germany’s National Day in November 2021 at short notice, the German Pavilion is now preparing for his visit with all the more anticipation.

The President’s trip will also include a visit to Abu Dhabi to honor 50 years of diplomatic relations between the UAE and the Federal Republic of Germany.

The UAE is Germany’s biggest trading partner in the region, after Turkey and at par with Saudi Arabia, according to Germany’s Foreign Federal Office.
In 2020, the UAE and Germany’s bilateral volume of trade was valued at EUR 7.51 billion. Germany’s main exports to the UAE are aircraft, cars, machinery, electrical goods and chemical products. Germany imports primarily aluminium and petrochemical products.
The German Emirati Joint Council for Industry and Commerce, which was founded in 2009, supports bilateral trade.
Bilateral cultural cooperation between them is extensive. The Goethe-Institut has operated a regional office in Abu Dhabi since 2006 and a language training centre in Dubаi since 2007. There are officially recognised German schools abroad in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Dubai. There are 20 cooperation projects between universities and academic institutions in the two countries.
