DP World inaugurates first smart logistics center in Peru
DP World has recently opened the first smart logistics center in Peru connected through optical fibers to Callao Port. This will help deliver full data to the port and customs, and will enable clients to control their goods using their own devices. DP World develops and operates the container terminal in this port, located near the Peruvian capital, Lima.
Fiorella Moulinilli, the Peruvian Vice Transport Minister, David Burger, Mayor of Lima and a number of senior officials in Peru, attended the center’s inauguration ceremony.
DP World Group Chairman and CEO and Chairman of Ports, Customs & Free Zone Corporation, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, commented, “DP World is reinforcing its global network of marine and inland terminals and logistics centers with the opening of the new logistics center in the republic of Peru. The new platform is designed to drive trade flow in the surrounding area, west of South America, with focus on making customers happy through providing smart logistics services that ensure time saving and cost efficient cargo movement and management between the logistics center and the port of Callao.
“This inauguration comes in line with DP Group’s commitment to developing and deploying state-of-the-art technology in its global ports portfolio of 77 marine and inland terminals worldwide, aiming to enhance global ports industry and boost growth in world trade and economy.”
DP World Group chairman and CEO stated that the Group is planning to open more logistics centers across Peru to ease container traffic on Callao terminal by means of smart control and monitoring of shipments for the best benefits of traders, investors and Peru’s overall economic growth.
DP World Callao is a greenfield terminal in the port of Callao, approximately 15km from the capital of Peru, Lima. Although the annual operational capacity of the terminal is only 800 TEU, DP World Callao handled 1.4 million TEU, thanks to deployment of high-tech equipment and highly trained staff. The port of Callao is today one of the busiest terminals operated by DP World globally.
