Asiana Airlines Cargo, the freight operation of the South Korea-based carrier, has inked a 10-year, multi-million-dollar contract with logistics IT solutions specialist IBS Software for its iCargo management system.

According to the terms of the deal, IBS will integrate the complete range of Asiana Cargo’s business operations – incorporating sales, revenue accounting, ULD management, mail management and mail revenue accounting – within the single iCargo platform.

According to IBS, the implementation of iCargo will allow the freight carrier to upgrade its IT capabilities from its home-grown legacy core system and a multitude of satellite systems to a single, fully integrated, new-generation platform.

As such, an IBS statement continued, it should allow the carrier to make value-adding enhancements in areas such as revenue and yield management, product management, real-time shipment monitoring and control, as well as in advanced technology capabilities such as enterprise mobility.

The iCargo platform will also enable Asiana Cargo to conform to industry-driven standards and best practices, such as electronic air waybills (eAWBs) and CXML, the technology specialist noted.

Kwang-Suk Kim, executive vice president of Asiana Cargo, remarked: “By selecting iCargo as our technology platform, we are hopeful that we (will) be able to cater to the demands of fast changing logistics services environment and improve our market share.

“We are sure that it will also bring a groundbreaking improvement opportunity in reinforcing cargo operation safety and customer services.”

Rajiv Shah, chief executive of IBS Software, added: “This selection by Asiana Airlines highlights IBS’s ability to conceptualise and build industry-leading global solutions which bring tangible business benefits.

“IBS continues to invest in innovative offerings for the airline industry to ensure that our customers stay ahead in this disruptive environment.

“This partnership with Asiana is also a testament to our commitment to the Korean market as we continue to expand our presence in East Asia.”

While IBS notes that its modular iCargo solution supports all the IT needs of air cargo management in a single, fully integrated platform, it can also be tailored to suit the specific needs and priorities of different customers.

Capable of addressing the needs of all kinds of cargo operations – large or small, combination or pure freighter, low-cost carrier (LCC) or full-service airline – iCargo now supports the cargo movements of over 25 airlines across the world.

Asiana Airlines currently operates to 14 domestic and 90 international passenger destinations, but it also flies 27 dedicated cargo routes throughout Asia, Europe, North America and Oceania.
