WestJet Cargo Expands Winter 2023 Services, adding Havana, Puerto Plata, Bridgetown and Kingston
WestJet Cargo, the innovative Canadian air cargo carrier, increases its cargo services for the Winter schedule of 2023, unveiling new destinations in its network.
Demonstrating a dedicated effort to address escalating demand and augment connectivity, WestJet Cargo inaugurated operations in Havana, Cuba, while also reinstating services to Puerto Plata, Bridgetown, and Kingston.
In a significant milestone achieved in September 2023, WestJet Cargo proudly launched its maiden cargo route to Havana, Cuba. The weekly flight on the YYZ – HAV route boasts a substantial cargo capacity of 20 tons per flight, marking Havana as the sole destination served by WestJet Cargo in Cuba.
Furthermore, WestJet Cargo also officially reintroduced cargo services to Puerto Plata in October 2023. The carrier now offers multiple weekly flights, ensuring a reliable 2-ton cargo capacity on each flight. The route rotation for this service is Toronto – Puerto Plata – Toronto.
In addition to this service, WestJet Cargo continues to provide cargo capacity on its passenger services to Punta Cana from Calgary and Toronto.
Cargo services also recommenced to Kingston, Jamaica in October 2023.
WestJet Cargo operates 3 weekly flights, each with a 2-ton cargo capacity. The route rotation for this service is Toronto – Kingston – Toronto.
Noteworthy is WestJet Cargo’s provision of cargo capacity on its passenger services to Montego Bay from various Canadian cities.
Starting November 2023, WestJet Cargo resumed cargo services to Bridgetown, Barbados, after a hiatus since early 2020.
The carrier now operates 4 weekly flights, delivering a cargo capacity of 2 tons per flight. The route rotation for Bridgetown is Toronto – Bridgetown – Toronto.
Kirsten De Bruijn, Executive Vice President of WestJet Cargo, expressed enthusiasm regarding these recent developments, stating, “These expansions align with WestJet Cargo’s commitment to meeting the evolving needs of our customers. We are excited to connect these vibrant destinations and contribute to the growth of trade and commerce.”
The commodities transported on these routes include perishables and general cargo. The decision to expand to these destinations underscores the recognized potential of WestJet’s passenger and cargo departments, independent of new aircraft acquisitions.
