Emirates SkyCargo signed an MoU with Astral Aviation to explore boosting global trade to and from Africa.

Astral Aviation operates an extensive intra-Africa network of 50 destinations served via scheduled and adhoc charters.

The partnership leverages Emirates SkyCargo’s network, highlighting Africa’s trade role, handling sensitive cargo like fruits, vegetables, and pharmaceuticals.

Badr Abbas, Emirates SkyCargo’s Divisional Senior Vice President and Mr. Sanjeev Gadhia, CEO of Astral Aviation Limited., signed the agreement at Air Cargo Africa.

The MoU involves expanding cargo interline options and block space agreements to enhance connectivity and boost African business reach.

Fast Growing Economy

Commenting on the partnership, Badr Abbas said, “Home to 11 of the 20 fastest-growing economies, coupled with bold trade ambitions, there is immense growth potential in Africa. Our extensive network, all widebody fleet, and specialist product portfolio position us well to help businesses reach new suppliers and customers worldwide. This partnership with Astral Aviation solidifies our longstanding commitment to the market, creating mutually beneficial economic opportunities to keep goods flowing quickly, reliably and efficiently.”

Mr. Gadhia said, “Today marks a pivotal step in our, over 15 years, commercial partnership and reflects our shared vision to elevate air cargo solutions to, from and within Africa. Together, we will unlock new opportunities, driving innovation and strengthening global trade connectivity.”

Economic/Investment Cooperation

UAE-Africa economic cooperation grows, with UAE as the top GCC and fourth largest global investor in Africa.

The UAE and Kenya signed a landmark CEPA to boost trade and investment in agriculture, infrastructure, healthcare, and more.

The Emirates SkyCargo and Astral Aviation agreement enhances trade flows, fostering growth and creating opportunities to strengthen global economies.

This supports AfCFTA’s goal to boost Africa’s exports by 32% by 2035, enhancing trade with the global market.

Emirates SkyCargo first began operations to Africa in April 1986, with the inaugural flight to Cairo, Egypt.

Over decades, the airline expanded operations, offering seven freighters and bellyhold on 172 flights weekly to 20 African destinations.

Astral Aviation, with hubs in Nairobi and Dubai, provides reliable airfreight, partnering with Emirates SkyCargo to enhance African trade.
