Carousel Logistics Opens New Cargo Hub at Birmingham Airport

Published: Thursday, February 20, 2025

Carousel Logistics has opened a new airside facility at Birmingham Airport to consolidate its cargo handling operations.

The cargo hub triples Carousel’s previous handling capability and is projected to reduce up to 50,000 miles of road transport per year.

“Our new facility at Birmingham Airport will allow us to handle even greater volumes of cargo within the same tight time window,” said Andrew Lowery, UK Managing Director, Carousel Logistics.

“Strategically located near the M42 and M6 motorways, Birmingham International station, new HS2 links, and our electric rail freight partner Varamis Rail, this investment will dramatically improve line haul times and cut carbon emissions.”

Cargo unloaded at Birmingham Airport was previously sent to Carousel’s site in Coventry before making its onward journey.

Opening this new facility removes this unnecessary step, with goods now sorted and shipped directly from the airport to their final destination.

The in-night logistics specialist has also invested in new lower-emissions equipment at Birmingham Airport as part of its long-term sustainability strategy, with forklifts and belt loaders now electrically powered, ground power units running on HVO biofuel, instead of diesel, and a new fleet of electric vans.

Carousel Logistics Expands with Logik Acquisition

Carousel Logistics, part of the DANX Carousel Group, has acquired Logik Logistics International, a UK-based specialist in time-critical and on-demand logistics. This strategic move aims to enhance Carousel’s service offerings and 24/7 response capabilities across Europe.

Lars Ryssel, Managing Director for Western Europe at DANX Carousel, stated, “This acquisition not only expands our time-critical logistics capabilities but also strengthens our on-demand service platform, enabling us to better serve our customers’ needs.”

Logik Logistics brings expertise in sectors such as automotive, aerospace, pharmaceuticals, and marine. Its services include express road and air freight, aircraft charter, and On Board Courier (OBC) services. The acquisition enhances Carousel’s ability to handle time-critical shipments efficiently.

David York, Managing Director at Logik, will remain with the company to ensure a smooth transition. He expressed enthusiasm about the merger, saying, “Joining forces with Carousel Logistics opens up exciting opportunities for our team and our clients. We look forward to leveraging our combined strengths to deliver unparalleled service to customers across Europe, whenever they need us.”

This acquisition follows DANX Carousel’s purchase of TLS, a Danish logistics specialist, last year. These moves underscore the group’s commitment to becoming Europe’s leading provider of time-critical logistics solutions, available around the clock.
