TAAG Angola Airlines Undertakes First Cargo Flight with New Boeing 737-800 Freighter

TAAG Angola Airlines has added a leased Boeing 737-800 freighter to its fleet.

On December 19, the 24-ton capacity aircraft undertook its first flight, a charter service, on a Luanda, Angola-Lagos, Nigeria-Luanda route.

This was also the first cargo flight carried out from Dr. Antonio Agostinho Neto International Airport, Angola’s new international airport that was opened last month.

The airport is set to gradually replace Quatro de Fevereiro Airport.

“This major milestone is part of the company’s strategy to progressively increasing its footprint within the regional African air cargo market,” said the state-owned airline.

The airline has also taken delivery of two Boeing 737-700 passenger aircraft.

Overall, the three aircraft will cover domestic and regional destinations, said TAAG Angola Airlines.

TAAG Angola Airlines said it is adding “new resources into the cargo segment in order to procure new contracts or non regular cargo services”.

TAAG currently operates to 18 destinations in Angola and 16 international destinations in South America, Europe, Asia and Africa.

Network Airline Management (NAM) currently has an agreement with TAAG to provide a weekly 747F scheduled service from Liege, Belgium, to Luanda.

NAM provides a 747-400F aircraft with nose door capability which carries up to 120,000 kilos of cargo on its core flight schedule.
