Dubai South Opens New High-Tech Facility for Expeditors

Dubai South, the largest single-urban master development focusing on aviation, logistics and real estate, has inaugurated a new facility at the Logistics District in Dubai South for Expeditors International of Washington, Inc., a Fortune 500 global logistics company.

The official opening ceremony was attended by senior leadership from both organizations, including Mohsen Ahmad, Chief Executive Officer of the Logistics District, Dubai South; and from Expeditors, Wael Hanna, District Manager, Dubai, K Murali, Senior Vice President, Middle East, Africa & Indian Subcontinent; and Mathew Joseph, Regional Vice President, Middle East and North Africa.

Spanning approximately 23,200 square meters, the facility is designed to provide comprehensive warehousing and fulfilment services, including container freight station operations. Additional offerings include inventory management, kitting, labelling, order management, compliance inspections, return programs, transportation management, pick-and-pack services, and quality control inspections.

In his comments, Mohsen Ahmad said: “We are delighted to inaugurate Expeditors’ new facility, which will deliver innovative logistics solutions to meet the region’s growing demand for advanced supply chain services. At Dubai South, our mandate is to support the government’s vision of positioning Dubai as one of the world’s leading logistics hubs.”

Expeditors, a global logistics company headquartered in Bellevue, Washington, employs trained professionals in 176 district offices and numerous branch locations located on six continents linked into a seamless worldwide network through an integrated information management system. Its services include the consolidation or forwarding of air and ocean freight, customs brokerage, vendor consolidation, cargo insurance, time-definite transportation, order management, warehousing and distribution, and customized logistics solutions.

Representing the pinnacle of logistical innovation encapsulated within a premier infrastructure network, Dubai South’s Logistics District offers premier services and operations as well as uninterrupted access to Jebel Ali Port via a bonded logistics corridor. The district comprises multiple zones, which have direct access to the cargo terminals at Al Maktoum International Airport; EZDubai, a fully dedicated e-commerce free zone; and a Contract Logistics Zone.

DHL Group and Temu Sign MoU to Support Local Businesses

The agreement aims to enhance collaboration to better support local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in established markets as well as in growth markets, such as Eastern Europe and the Middle East.

The agreement aims to deepen their cooperation and further expand their successful partnership. The agreement aims to enhance collaboration to better support local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in established markets. It also seeks to extend this support to growth markets, such as Eastern Europe and the Middle East. Both parties are committed to fostering compliant trade and sustainable practices.

DHL Group will support Temu through its logistics expertise. This includes multimodal transportation solutions to provide more efficient and sustainable supply chain services. As part of the Memorandum of Understanding, DHL Group will utilize its logistics expertise to support Temu’s operations in Europe. This includes its local-to-local model, which enables local merchandise partners to sell on its platform and supports local fulfillment. Temu expects up to 80% of its total sales in Europe to come from this local-to-local model. Additionally, the e-commerce platform will enable European-based sellers to reach global markets in the future. This allows, in particular, SMEs to scale and expand their businesses. DHL will also assist Temu in growing its presence in e-commerce markets, including the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) regions.

JAFZA Invests AED 90 Million to Expand Logistics Park

JAFZA (Jebel Ali Free Zone) is reinforcing its position with a strategic AED 90 million investment in the second phase of its state-of-the-art Logistics Park. The expansion adds 360,000 square feet of Grade-A facilities. It aligns with the UAE’s push to grow its logistics sector to AED 200 billion annually in the next seven years. It also cements Dubai’s role in international trade.

The second phase delivers world-class infrastructure, including modern offices, customizable units, and temperature-controlled warehouses. It also features loading docks and enhanced power capacity to support diverse industries.

The Middle East and Africa’s freight and logistics market is set to hit $235.8 billion by 2031. As a result, demand for advanced warehousing is accelerating. This growth is particularly evident in Dubai, where sectors like manufacturing, logistics, construction, and e-commerce are driving unprecedented expansion.

The newly expanded park helps close this gap by offering market access through JAFZA’s connectivity with Jebel Ali Port. It also provides advanced storage and handling solutions, including contract logistics, freight forwarding, and freight management. These services cover everything from tech and automotive parts to fashion and packaged food. It also provides value-added services like packaging, labeling, and quality control, along with real-time inventory tracking. Additionally, it enables re-exports, domestic fulfillment, and import-export consolidation.

Designed with sustainability in mind, the Park incorporates precast concrete and off-site construction methods to minimize environmental impact. It also features skylights to maximize natural daylight and reduce energy consumption.

JAFZA currently hosts 10,890 companies from 150 countries, supporting over 160,000 jobs and contributing AED 620 billion in trade annually. Phase 1, completed in November 2023, spans 562,507 square feet. It features Grade-A dry and pharma storage units, temperature-controlled warehouses, and office spaces.
